Rashida Jones’s Secret Struggle: Why She Gave Up on Music Because of Dad Quincy Jones

Rashida Jones has a confession to make.

Rashida Jones has made a name for herself in Hollywood. She is linked to movie and TV projects like The Social Network, The Office, Silo, and more recently Sunny for Apple TV+.

However, the partner of Ezra Koenig once thought about launching a music career.

However, with her father being the legendary producer Quincy Jones, the 48-year-old actress quickly put that idea aside and focused on acting instead.

The multi-faceted mother of one said on the SmartLess podcast with hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett: “My dad’s a musical genius. That’s like, the last thing I want to do, is try my hand at that.”

She continued: “But I love it. Like, I have a deep ache for music and I just don’t ever feel like I’m good enough to do it. Like I’ll never be good enough to do it, so I just don’t.”

Rashida Jones’s secret talent

The Parks and Recreation actress is being a little humble here because she did dabble a couple of times in music.

Rashida Jones did vocal backup on Maroon 5’s first two albums. Moreover, her passion for music is real. Jones explained: “I love it so much and I kind of like, sing for fun. I sang backup on the first two Maroon 5’s. I sang for them live. I’ve written for fun, and I’ve sung backup on some albums and things like that… I can write [music], my reading is limited.”

Jones’s late mother, Peggy Lipton, was an actress and model. She made a memorable appearance in Twin Peaks.

Lipton won a Golden Globe in the Best Actress – Television Series Drama category in 1970 for her work in the crime drama The Mod Squad.

With two very talented parents, Rashida Jones almost missed a career in entertainment if we go by her logic.

Is it too late for Rashida Jones’s music dreams?
